Retro Comics
Trip Back In Time!! AC’s Retrocomics line celebrates the great comics and characters of the 1940′s by combining NEWLY PRODUCED stories of classic Golden Age characters set in various time periods, with actual vintage stories from that era. Comics produced by contemporary artists, using the creative inspirations and sensibilities of fifty years ago, plus great reprints. This special “prequel” zero issue focuses on Holyoke Comic’s original Cat-Man and Kitten. The first new retro story takes place at The Metropolitan Museum in 1947, “When The Mummy Walks!” What looks to be the reincarnation od Egyptian Pharoah Akemhotep II turns out to be a plot by Axis agents in this neat little drama written and drawn by David Jacob Beckett. Then, turn the clock ahead fifty years for the next story, as the same museum curator they met in ’47 is mysteriously kidnapped , as Cat-Man works solo, in “When The Mummy Walks Again”, written and drawn by Bill Black. And, rolling back to the early 1990′s, as a rare quiet moment during the Rur War has Cat-Man, Kitten and friends tussling with a stranger from another dimension, in an untitled story written and drawn by Stephanie Sanderson, and inked by Bill Black. It guest stars Yankee Girl, Commando D, The Scarlet Scorpion, and Tribune. Plus, not one but TWO authentic GA reprint stories- Cat-Man and Kitten, in an untitled story from Holyoke’s original Cat-Man #14, from October, 1924, drawn by Charles Quinlan, and a 1940 adventure of Yarko, The Great Master of Magic, from an issue of Fox Feature’s Wonderworld Comics, drawn by Will Eisner. A funtastic little bundle of history and nostalgia. Color painted cover by David Jacob Beckett, interiors are black and white. 44 pages, 67/8″ X 81/2″ retrocomics size.
