These hardcovers reprint the first adventures of the original mutant team, the X-Men, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1963. Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Angel, Beast and Iceman were teenagers recruited by Professor X, who would learn to use their mutant powers at Xavier's Institute for the Higher Learning.Volume One and Volume Two are second edition, 'ReMasterworks' books, which are slightly different from the X-Men books in the Marvel Masterworks volume.
