Bridging the gap between "underground comix" and mainstream publishers like Marvel, DC, Charlton, Dell,Warren, etc., Star*Reach was one of the earliest independently-published series. It was sold primarily through subscription only service and available in Head Shops and the few dedicated comic book stores that existed in the early 1970s. It was a solid science fiction/urban fantasy anthology series, well ahead of its time, that showcased the talents of many artists and writers who would go on to become legends in the comics field, including: Howard Chaykin, Jim Starlin, Dave Sim, Mike Vosburg, Ken Steacy, Barry Windsor Smith, P. Craig Russell, Michael Gilbert, Dean Motter, Gene Day... the list goes on.
