It will prove to be one of Batman's most challenging adventures as a new hero joins the Dark Knight's continuing cast of characters in BATMAN: SWORD OF AZRAEL. Azrael is the enforcer for the secret Order of Saint Dumas, a society whose existence dates back to the time of the Crusades. When this bullet-riddled angel of death crashes into the midst of a Gotham City parade, Batman is drawn into the mystery of Azrael, launching them on a quest that leads both Batman and the young Azrael to Europe where they separately investigate the systematic slaying of the members of the Order of Saint Dumas.

This comic starts with Commissioner Gordon and his Gotham City Police Unit going to a local jewel shop. Harley Quinn is in there alone with the cashier who fainted because he knew who she was. Harley exits the building and tells Gordon that it was all a big misunderstanding and that she was just trying to shop. Gordon is surprised that she had money, which she got for helping Catwoman get even with Hush. Batman then tells Harley that she should get out of town to start a new life. Abuse then appears for the very first time. He goes a girl named Katie from getting sold to a man. Later Firefly creates a chemical to set the body of another person, to flames. Firefly lets his chemical loose in the Gotham City subway, while Damian Wayne visits Hush. Damian then leaves – and as Robin – saves a man in a car, who is on fire. Batman then saves another man in front of Gordon and then gives Gordon's Police Unit, 10 Foam Capsule launchers to stop people from burning. The comic ends with Batman and Robin staring at a burning Batman emblem spread over Gotham.

While elsewhere several villains escape Blackgate prison. The escapees then head for the mall in order to gain civilian clothes so they can blend into the chaos of Gotham, as Spoiler combats the looting taking place in the mall.  However she's forced to break off to save a little girl, but ends up falling only to be saved by the newly arrived Huntress. However both their attention is drawn by gunfire, stopping the Baffler as the other inmates continue changing...

A collection of the three DEMON tales, each story explores the connection between Batman and the villain Ra's al Ghul. The first tale focuses on the two teaming up and a union between the Dark Knight and Talia al Ghul; the second focuses on Ra's attempting to father a heir; and the third explores the real story behind the seemingly immortal villain and his motivation for world domination.

As she is being hailed as a goddess by a young woman who has noticed plants growing where they shouldn't, who also pleads for help from her, the island is attacked and all life on the island except for Ivey is destroyed. Throughout the rest of the book, we see Pamela Isleys back story, as we watch Poison Ivy take revenge on those who have destroyed her island.
