Francis is born in Assisi, Italy in the year 1181 or 1182, at the end of the Dark Ages. As he grows up he becomes friend to many nobles, even though he is a member of the middle class. A war with the nearby town Perugia sends Francis into battle. He is captured along with many of his noble friends and imprisoned. He offers comfort to his fellow inmates, but is affected by the imprisonment himself. After a year of being a prisoner the ransom is paid and they are freed. However just months later Francis takes ill and is sick for a very long time. Finally Francis, known as "King of the Feasts" amongst his friends, returns to full health. Francis feels a greater desire to be a noble, and be accepted and he creates bigger and better parties, all the while spending his fathers money...

While playing soccer on a warm summer's day, Sunspot lost his patience and shoved Cannonball with his super human strength. In the wake of Knightfall, Catwoman finds herself working for Bane, who now runs Gotham City from the shadows. She steals for him, under the watchful eye of a handler named Leopold, whose only mission in life is to make sure she's not skimming off the top. In her civilian guise, it's revealed that Selina has taken a young runaway under her wing, a girl named Arizona, who reminds her of her old friend from the East End, Holly Robinson.

On their way out of the compound, secretly given permission by Youngblood field leader Shaft, the Bloodpool participants liberate some weapons and ordinance classified "outdated" and headed off.  The participants broke into two groups and the primary members of the program literally ran head first into a kidnapping at gunpoint.Operating on instinct alone the Bloodpool participants leaped from the vehicle, saved the intended victims and took the check written to them on the spot as an omen regarding their future: super powered mercenaries.
